My name is Scott Hendison, and I’m an SEO consultant in Portland Oregon.

I ran a computer store from 1997 to 2002, and began learning SEO in about 2001. In 2004, I formed Search Commander, Inc. and began working full time in the search industry.

Why make this tool?
One day back in 2005, it dawned on me that everything I looked at while reviewing a website was just a specific set of data, and since I was getting busier all the time, I decided that I needed to automate the process.

We began development of an internal tool that would tell us what we needed to know at a glance, but it wasn’t very user friendly, it was painfully slow, and it lust plain sucked time, sucked cash, and well… sucked. We were just too busy, and I gave up.

What took so long?
One thing led to another, and various tools out there were developed by other SEO’s but there still wasn’t one single place to just punch in a URL, and get everything in one grab. Tools were getting better all the time, and surely someone would have one soon, right? Nope.

Sitting in the audience at the 2007 SES Local show in Los Angeles, I mentioned to someone that the reason I preferred using WordPress was because we could make it “do all of the “SEO stuff” automatically, allowing clients and authors to simply add content and build links.

I told him I was pretty much on “SEO Automatic”, and the minute I said it, I popped open my laptop and registered the domain name, but still, did nothing with it until now.

Why Now?
Time rolled on, and nine months later, in the summer of 2008, I ran across another site doing something similar, and I contacted them about becoming a sponsor, or even sole sponsor of their tool, and they pretty much blew me off.

Apparently they were happy with some Ad Sense revenue, and in fact they suggested that I target them in the Google Content Network with a banner.

I then offered to license the tool for use in my own domain, and while they said it was an interesting idea, they didn’t want to do it at this time.

I then started thinking about something Guy Kawasaki said at Elite Retreat, about getting started and getting things done, and I decided to get off my ass and do it myself, but better.

Why For Free?
I got some help finding a great local programmer, and what you see here is a work in progress, I’m pretty happy with how it’s turned out so far, so I’m showing it off.

At this time, the tool is NOT yet available for other SEO firms to use on their domains with their own advice, because we’re still looking for a seamless installation process - but it may be very soon…
Until it is, enjoy the tool for free, with my own advice thrown in at no extra charge.
